The public inquiry into the Covid pandemic has cost the government more than £100m to respond to so far, the BBC has learnt. This is on top of the £192m spent by the inquiry itself - meaning the cost to the taxpayer is over 50% more than previously thought.

If each A* shortcut calculation explores 100-1000 detailed road segments, the total detailed segments visited by A* might be around 10,000-50,000. The entire pipeline executes in a single call stack. No promises are created, no microtask queue scheduling occurs, and no GC pressure from short-lived async machinery. For CPU-bound workloads like parsing, compression, or transformation of in-memory data, this can be significantly faster than the equivalent Web streams code – which would force async boundaries even when every component is synchronous.
